I Heart Bikes - Bike Rentals and City Tours

Fantastic experience: Our first time in Halifax, these bikes were definitely the answer! Due to bad knees, we haven't rode a bicycle in a while. However there are 2 different options of electric bicycles at I Heart Bikes Halifax. We went with the "comfort" e-bikes. You pedal a bit, and that wakes up the motor that can be set on 3 different speeds. Very easy on the knees! The knowledgeable staff adjusted the seats to fit up perfectly, and included helpful tips about the area. We rode down to Point Pleasant Park, toured around the park, and were back within 2 hours. A lovely experience! There's some hills in that park, and we were grateful for the electric bikes!

Fantastic experience: The best way to explore the city, way better than Hop-on and its variants. IHB will provide you with tours in the Ride with GPS app (if you don't have travel SIM or a lot of data, download the app on your hotel wifi). Bikes have got phone mounts, just don't forget the power for the phone. I rented a bike for 4h, and was able to get to the Titanic cemetery and also to Dartmouth (tours 6 and 8, without a ferry). There are some steeper sections, but the bike had a lot of gears, and after a climb, a decent followed. Drivers were fine, I wasn't afraid when I left the bike lane and had to share a ride with vehicles. The bike has got everything you need for basic repairs, a helmet is also provided.

Fantastic experience: Just walked up and rented an EBike for 1/2 day and then a couple hours into my ride I decided to keep bike for all day and the staff was very accommodating. I used GPS app as my map. Loved the E bike assistance on the Halifax hills. Halifax is a great biking City and I had a great experience. Would use this company again and highly recommend.

Positive experience: This is a GREAT way to get an overview of Halifax and highly recommend. Very nice e-bikes! My sister and I booked this tour in early September 2024. Problem was we were not told that the e-assist can automatically turn off if the bike is stopped for several minutes. After our first stop, the group took off up the hill and I struggled, wondering why I was unable to keep up. I stopped, walked my bike up the hill, but by then, the group was nowhere to be found. After waiting 5 minutes, I decided to follow the 'bike trail' signage, rode up an even steeper hill, and continued until I could identity my location. Bike usage directions at the start were minimal and I ended up riding 3/4 of tour with a heavy e-bike and no e-assist---quite a heavy workout. The tour was great, would do again, just needed better directions and guide follow-through. 9/25/2024: Thank you for following up. I know these things happen and I wouldn't hesitate to tour Halifax with your company again.

Fantastic experience: Amazing experience renting two hybrid bikes from i <3 bikes. Nathan was super helpful over the phone and in person. My wife and I found the bikes perfect for all-terrain during our road trip through the Maritimes. Highly recommend renting from this great company!

Fantastic experience: Abby was an awesome tour guide! She was always aware of where everyone in the group was. She kept an appropriate pace based on the group. Abby was well versed in the history of Halifax and the various historical spots on the tour. The tour covered the key points of interest, and the bikes were comfortable and easy to use. I would highly recommend I Love Bikes!

Fantastic experience: We had a guided tour with E-bikes and Sally as our tour guide. It was a great tour, Sally is super friendly and explained everything very well. The bikes were also very good, and a helmet and a bottle of water were included. Since there were some steep climbs, we were glad to have E-bikes. After about half of the route, there was a bit of time to stretch our legs and use a toilet. We can absolutely recommend this provider.

Fantastic experience: Our group of four took a guided tour of Halifax on e-bikes. Abby, our tour guide was outstanding! After explaining how the bikes work and reviewing safety issues, Abby led us on a three hour tour with many stops at notable sites where she explained the historic significance. The tour price, including bike rentals, was very reasonable and we had a great time.

Fantastic experience: I took the daily Halifax e-Bike tour with Laura on September 8, and it was a fantastic time. The e-bike fit me perfectly, the route was well planned, and Laura filled me in on the history and present all around Halifax. She helped navigate the crowds on the waterfront as well, that was key.

Negative experience: I rented here yesterday with my husband and 1 year old son. We rented 2 hybrid bikes and a chariot for our son. Overall we had a disappointing experience. The route suggested by the staff involved busy roads, not suitable for a chariot. There were minimal bike lanes for the approx 9 km to get to the rum runner trail and we felt extremely uncomfortable with the chariot. We are avid cyclists from Toronto and would never ride on roads like that with a 1 year old. As soon as we got to the path we had a flat tire. We used the quick fix spray provided which didn’t work and caused a mess so we changed the tube and turned around back home. Ended up riding for half the time we paid for because we weren’t enjoying it.

Fantastic experience: First class service and excellent quality hybrid e-bikes. Everything was as described for our Salt Marsh trail . We did about 60 km and lots of battery power left. Trail was terrific and would recommend it.

Fantastic experience: Great 3 hour tour of Halifax led by Luke. Highly recommended, you see a nice overview of harbor/downtown area, and I'd not recommend doing it yourself for the first time. Plus the electric are great for the hills. The only suggestion I have is for the staff to give the group a quick overview at the start, for ex., to go up the hills, have the gear selected on 1 or 2 and set the electric assist on 2-3.

Fantastic experience: We had friends visiting from Ontario and they enjoy cycling. We live in Dartmouth and enjoy the local trails here on our bicycles. The I Heart Bike guided tour was fantastic, we thoroughly enjoyed it. Laura was our guide and she was extremely knowledgeable about the city of Halifax and the points of interest stops we made. We highly recommend trying their company, even if you live in the area. Also the pedal assists bicycles were easy to use and very comfortable.

Fantastic experience: Our tour with I ❤ Bikes was a top highlight of our trip to Nova Scotia. The staff were super friendly, the e-bikes were comfortable and easy to ride. Laura took us on a 2.5 hour tour of some of the best parts of the city: The Immigration Museum, Point Pleasant Park, The Public Gardens, Citadel Hill, and the Public Library to name a few. Laura was INCREDIBLE; kind, funny, and very knowledgeable about every stop. She also made sure that my 12 year old daughter felt included and was safe on the busier streets. Make sure you book a tour with this awesome business; you'll be missing out if you don't! 10/10 would recommend!!!

Fantastic experience: We booked a city tour for myself, my wife, and our 2 year old. The staff was so amazing getting us fitted. Unfortunately the bike seat we selected ended up being too small, but they easily rebooked us with a bike trailer. They made this possibly stressful situation very easy. Once we were on the tour, Abby was fantastic and always made sure the group was together, safe, and engaged. We love doing bike tours when we travel and this is definitely one we’d highly recommend.

Brakes, shifting, tires and batteries all in top working order. High quality bikes, and I am a picky cyclist. I recommend renting here!

Fantastic experience: Just finished a guided e-bike tour with Luke at I Heart Bikes in Halifax. Luke is super friendly and extremely knowledgeable of the history of Halifax. I learned so much about the history of this wonderful city, and a few surprising fun facts as well! I highly recommend taking the e-bike tour. BTW, e-bikes are really easy to ride through this hilly city and Luke is a great teacher.

Negative experience: Waste of money. Poor quality bikes. Shameless owner. Rented 2 electric bikes for 2 days. Returned after first day (refused to reimburse us for unused next day) I would tell people not to rent from this establishment. The electric bikes seemed old and worn. Going uphill at one point while still peddling the bike couldn't surpass 10km/hr. Other electric bikes I have used surpass this with little to no effort. Avoid at all cost. Try someone or somewhere else. Sad experience.

Fantastic experience: The first time renting a bike - and for a 7 day cycle on the Cabot Trail. Sarah answered all my questions, from getting there to all the info I needed about the bike, both quickly and effectively. The “crew” at I Heart Bikes was really good at making sure the rental was done seamlessly. And the bike was perfect for the many hill-climbs over the Cabot Trail mountain passes. I Heart Bikes was great!

Fantastic experience: We partnered with I Heart Bikes to offer a cycling excursion in Halifax for a corporate group looking for an active way to tour the city. They were an excellent company to work with and our guests had a great tour, with lots of interesting stops and local information. Sarah and her team were excellent partners to showcase Halifax to our guests from all over Canada. We would highly recommend them!

Fantastic experience: Great bike rental -- I enjoyed riding a hybrid bike to point pleasant and back through downtown (they provide a handy kit with lock). The staff are friendly and helpful.

Fantastic experience: Did a 4 day bike hire. Great selection of trail maps (online app) . Mixture of off road dedicated bike trails and road cycling. Rum runner route and the Saltmarsh were both great. The road route to Peggy's cove is very scenic (although first bit busy with traffic). The staff were all super helpful. Bikes well maintained and had everything needed for longer cycles. Top bike hire place.

Fantastic experience: Great selection of bikes from pedal to electric assist. Halifax has a few hills so electric assist is fantastic. Bike lock helmet all included. Enjoy the app to tour the city. The app is a bit of an energy hog and the app I did find overly complicated at times as it keeps updating. Just get an old fashion map as Google maps shows most of Halifax as parking lots.

Fantastic experience: Only place in Halifax open on Sundays. We rented comfort e-bikes for half a day. Got a flat not 30 minutes into the ride. Their quick fix kit that was provided for each bike worked like a charm!! So much fun riding around for miles and miles.

Positive experience: Nice ride Bikes could be prepared a bit better. Of all three bikes we rented not a single bell worked. They were bent and rusted. Just shows they are not putting money back in as often as they should for something easily replaceable.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic service. I contacted them several weeks out to arrange for a rental a week before their official opening and they didn’t hesitate to help me out. I was visiting on a cruise ship for the day and wanted to get a good long ride in and the road bike they lent me was perfect. The bike had a little pannier on the back with a tire kit and lock and more than enough room for me to store my HUGE hoodie and ID. No issues at all with the gears or brakes and the bike was is great repair. I will definitely rent from them again if I find myself back in Halifax.

Fantastic experience: This is a wonderful way to see Halifax and our family really enjoyed this as an excursion with our cruise ship vacation. As many have highlighted, the staff at I Heart Bikes is really kind and patient. They helped us shake the rust off of our bike riding skills and get going! Keep in mind that you are not supposed to ride on the sidewalks in Halifax. The sidewalks are for the walkers! :) It's an incredibly beautiful city with many outstanding local merchants. Our bikes had nice bags in the back for storing our purchases. Of course, they also provided an emergency tire repair kit in the bag as well. Great stuff. I Heart Bikes is a wonderful part of Halifax. Enjoy!

Fantastic experience: This is an absolutely wonderful place to rent bikes. I came to the East Coast to do a self-made solo cycling tour for a week, and got to experience two different e-bikes. Both were in great condition, well-maintained, and the assist system was explained well. I had the misfortune of popping a tire with a piece of metal shrapnel. I called the shop and the girls were INCREDIBLY patient with me, walking me through getting the tire off, new tube fitted, and then getting it all back together again. I cannot stress enough how dumb I was, and how great they were with getting me through that. Spare tube, tire lever, multi-tool, and hand pump all provided in panniers, so I had everything I needed to get it done. Every staff member was knowledgeable, helpful, patient, and passionate about bikes! I couldn't have asked for a better experience, and delighted to have been a client.

They do not lend tools, rent tools, sell parts, do emergency repairs, or anything that is not related to their own equipment. If you require any assistance not related to rentals it is best to go someplace else.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely the best bike rental shop I have ever visited. We rented 2 road bikes to bike the Cabot Trail (200km+). The staff were incredibly helpful, informative and friendly. The bikes were in perfect condition/tuned up perfectly and we did not have any problems with them the entire way, despite very rough conditions (not even 1 flat!!!). Reserving the bikes was an easy process and the staff were very responsive when I called with questions about which bikes to rent! Worth every penny! Ahmed is a very lovely staff member who as very kind and meticulous when tuning up the bikes. The owner is also fabulous! Thank you for helping us live out this amazing experience!!! 11/10 would rent from I Heart Bikes again any day!

Negative experience: First arrived to rent 5 bikes. After registration, waited for 1h20 to get the bikes, The guy preferred to take care about next customers. The employee was counting from the registration time (We rent the bikes for 4h), 55$ with insurance. Finally, got deflated wheel 3x during the trip (wheel replaced just before we left). 3 of us arrived late (been lost) while the 2 others were on time and explained that we arrived. Bikes wouldn't be rent after us anyway. Finally, angry employee trying to be sentimental (I also have a life, I should be with my family now) , we called the boss also angry (what a service) charged 25$ more for the delay. Never ever! Just run away!

Negative experience: The small ebike is advertised as good for someone 5 ft 2 in. I am 5'2" and it was not even close! I stopped, couldn't touch the ground due to the high bar, and fell. I hurt my leg where the pedal dug in and still feel the gravel on my palm. Took the bike back and the clerk called the owner to see about a refund and the owner said no because it was less than 24 hours. Did not like paying for something advertised to work that not only didn't, but actually hurt me.

Positive experience: Staff was nice. IF YOU WANT AN E BIKE YOU GOT TO MAKE A RESERVATION!! dont make the same mistake as I did. But if you do, know that the city bikes are really just as good. They are way more comfy then the e bikes, if you are under 5"2 dont make the same mistake as me, take the small frame instead of the medium.

I have a well-loved bicycle, that was in desperate need of a tune-up. In an effort to support local, I chose I Heart Bikes. Sarah's staff were extremely friendly, patient, polite and knowledgeable. They took one look at my well-loved bike and assured me that they could set her to rights, and rather than pushing new parts, they helpfully suggested eco-kind, and wallet-friendly tune-up options. Given my work schedule, it was challenging for me to meet the tune-up day drop -off times. Sarah accommodated my schedule, and completed a complete overhaul on my poor weather-worn bike. She provided sage and sound advice, and I could not be more thrilled with the amazing, incredible, timely and terrific service I received from the front-end staff, up to the owner herself. Fantastic experience: I rented an e-bike at iHeart bikes this summer.. wow what a lot of fun! The bike was a good quality Opus with a 250w motor, just enough to level out the hills and make the straight sections a little more exciting and enjoyable. The rental process was smooth and professional with all appropriate health precautions one would expect. I'm going to rent one again!

Fantastic experience: This is a great service offered to us here in Halifax and the staff are wonderful. They really take the time to ensure all riders enjoy their experience. When we went I had my 12 year old niece with me who had very limited experience with riding a bike. The staff worked with her and fitted her bike with training wheels only to find out that she really couldn't even support herself on those. We felt defeated and I felt terrible about wasting their time as it seemed we would have to not go on our ride. Then one of the girls suggested we take their tandem bike out. They allowed us to make the change without any additional charge and told us all they wanted was for each member of our party to enjoy themselves. We had a lovely ride down to point pleasant park and my niece had the time of her life. I am forever grateful to these helpful women who would not settle for us giving up! My niece is still talking about the experience months later and we will most certainly be back to do it again once the weather warms up!
