Negative experience: 10 - 12 years ago I used Algonquin travel for a trip to Panama & the following year to St. Lucia. Both were well done & professional. I would commend the agent but have forgotten their name. As a result, this year 2024, when my family required a flight to Singapore in late March & an inclusive vacay to Dominican Republic in early April we visited this travel agency again. Although the agent was extremely rude, condescending, abrupt, impatient & made many errors, we did finalize tickets because our time was limited. We have a very ill family member that needed our attention more than finding a professional agent. We will not use Algonquin travel again.

Fantastic experience: Had Jodi book a trip for us in punta cana, gave her minimal info and very little before the preferred departure date, but she was able to make it an experience my friend and I will never forget. If you are in your early 20’s and looking to travel. This is the place for you .

Negative experience: I have used this agency twice. Elaine sounded very abrupt and short tempered when trying to get information. I went to the washroom at the airport to wash my hands and people were using the toilet and when she heard a toilet flushing she accused me of using the toilet while on phone with her. She did not ask me if I was using the washroom before making the accusations. The second time I used it was during COVID-19 in 2022, she was all tense and anxious when giving information required for travel. I wanted to buy a ticket for the end of this month and she sounded very angry on the phone complaining of paper work and refused to find a flight that would accept 2 checked in baggage. When I told her I have never paid for 2 pieces of luggage while traveling she raised her voice at me. I went online and searched for air tickets and got a $400 less than hers with 2 pieces checked, a carry on and personal luggage free. Not sure if this is the right job for her.
Hello Fay, It’s a bit puzzling why you came back to make a third booking with our agency when you had these previously unreported concerns re the first 2 bookings we made for your trips to Kenya in 2020 and 2022. There was nothing to “accuse” you of re the bathroom scenario. Cell phones do not work well in airport bathrooms and I was only asking if you were in the bathroom because I could not hear you very well and suggested that you call me back when you were not in the bathroom. Perhaps you could hear me, but I could not hear you well. Travel to Kenya has been complicated throughout the pandemic and the rules, regulations and testing requirements were constantly changing. If you perceived that I was “all tense and anxious” when giving you information, please know that it was out of concern for your safe travels and making doubly sure that you had everything that you needed. Perhaps you have forgotten how I assisted you when you obtained the wrong Covid test the first time you went to Kenya, causing you to miss your flight and I was able to re-protect you on the next possible flight and get you on your way again. I have many emails indicating that your requests were answered in a timely manner, even though your own emails were often delayed and void of needed and requested information. This month, when you requested a fare to Kenya that would include 2 pieces of luggage, I sent you options of the best fare that I could find at the time while trying to keep a hold on the price AND stay with a good airline as requested. Pricing, availability and baggage inclusions change all the time, so that you were able to find an acceptable rate yourself a few days later is not surprising. I am generally a soft spoken person, but I work in an often noisy office and often have to “raise my voice” , but it would not have been directed at you in anger. That's not my style. I am sorry if we were not able to provide the fare that you were looking for, but I strongly disagree with the comments and the rating you have given my past service and especially the times that I went above and beyond to assist you when you were in a travel predicament.

Due to COVID, our trips were rescheduled and then cancelled completely due to health reasons. She handled our requests efficiently and professionally. A lot of effort went into the complicated scenarios she had to deal with at the same time that she was juggling numerous other travelers and their trip requirements. Fantastic experience: We stumbled across Algonquin Travel and went to a Scenic Tour open house about 3 years ago. Elaine is our agent. She is amazing. Elaine is very thorough with giving us all the information required for an amazing trip. Finding best routes and fit for our needs. I would recommend anyone needing an agent, she is your gal!!!!

Negative experience: horrible service, I wanted to book something next week and the person said - there is too much paper work to do to book something, yet I just spoke to other agencies and they were willing to bend over backwards... so odd, is this company getting too many freebees from taxpayers handouts or what? anyhow, book your stuff on the web easier!!!! try to avoid going through toronto though, PCR tests are useless as it takes 48 hours to get results - damn turdo, who voted that clown in again. In other countries you can get a PCR test result in around 4hrs. In the USA they only require antigen tests which makes sense as its 15 minutes for results. Big make work project all this is with massive handouts (debt). Anyhow, go on the web there are places that are open for business without all the hype/fear/hysteria/paranoia and no guilt/power trips... canada is a joke of debt. Looking to move now, joke of a country this is. Expensive and in debt. Go travel the world...
Hello Jeff….we’re disappointed that you interpreted our phone conversation last week as you did. “Paper work” is our middle name and we are not afraid of it. However, since you were not clear on which destination you were wanting (beyond just a “good deal” ) we were more concerned for YOU that there would not be enough time to do the research for a last minute trip AND still be able to comply with the current restrictive rules and regulations regarding airline travel during Covid. In many cases, pre-departure tests (ie/ PCR/Antigen) could be very difficult to get considering that private Covid testing centers for travel purposes would be closed for the Christmas holidays. We have been in the industry for 33 years and pride ourselves on helping our clients navigate safely through the current muddy waters of travel. In this case, factoring in the many extra steps and counselling required to get you there and back safely, time was not going to be our friend to successfully pull off a last minute trip for you on the day that you contacted us.

Fantastic experience: Over the years I have travelled numerous times for business and leisure. The service has always been exceptional and in every case I was treated like I was the only client they had to serve. The individual attention I received and the attention to detail is why I keep going back to them. on one occasion while on business my flight home was changed by the airline which was a problem because the new date would be passed the expiry date on my Travel Visa. I called Algonquin and the problem was dealt with without hesitation by the agent and I was on the other side of the world! If only all service companies were like this... travel on!

Negative experience: I called to get some information for air ticket and answer I got was, you have to come to Office to gain information, I wonder what era they are living in? Who has time to go to office and wait for agent to get free and then get some information? The lady on the phone was extremely rude when I asked her for information, it was like I asked her for some unusual request. Would not recommend this agency to anyone!
We are very sorry that we were unable to assist you over the phone with your inquiry. Unfortunately, prices on airline tickets fluctuate constantly, with prices changing within each day and often within the hour. This makes it very difficult to provide reliable rate quotes, especially for travel that is imminent. Without ability to provide any assurance that the price will hold until you are able to come to the office to pay for the ticket, we encourage travellers to visit us in person for these transactions. Further, it is not possible for us to conclude the transaction by phone. The instance of fraud perpetrated by those attempting to use stolen or false credit cards for payment of airline tickets is simply too high. It is our policy not to permit transactions by phone unless the client is a repeat customer with a significant and reliable history with our office. This is necessary to protect both our clients and our business. Sadly, this is the "era" in which we all must live nowadays. We are very sorry if failing to provide a quote over the phone seemed unhelpful or rude. That was definitely not our intention and is not at all how we treat our clients. We pride ourselves on our very high degree of customer service and have a keen desire to go above and beyond expectation in providing satisfaction to all who do business with us.
