Negative experience: What is the point of a VISITOR info if it's closed on a Sunday

Fantastic experience: Visitor Center. Very kind staff. You can ask them nearly everything. Inside there is allso a tiny little tourist shop to find some tourist things as clothes, badges, cup's. Things like that.

Positive experience: Very small city. not much to do or see. There isn't a downtown but it has it's own small town beauty.

Negative experience: This is a critique on Discover Saskatoon itself. Discover Saskatoon seem to promote what they are trying so hard to be. Not what Saskatoon truly is which is a great mix of different types of people. Not everyone is a 20ish year old influencer/art lover. (Does the art gallery pay for Discover Saskatoon?) This is especially evident in the coverage of the hospitality industry. All this “tourism board” seems to do is promote the same 3 or 4 restaurants. A lot of which have lower ratings and don’t seem to last more than a few years. It almost seems like the people who are writing about this industry are doing so as they have some connection the owners. I would like to see Discover Saskatoon actually show off Saskatoon to the people who are visiting town for various conferences/events. Not just show off cute cafes and “farm to table” restaurants that show well on social media so they can get clicks. Saskatoon has a great mix of restaurants that have been around 10 years plus and they never seem to get any coverage. I hope this finds your board well and possibly gives you a small wake-up.

Discover Saskatoon

Hi D M, Thanks so much for reaching out and thank you for your patience regarding our reply as we were out of office at the end of 2023. We are happy to provide information, and hope that it helps provide insight into the work that we do. To begin, as a Destination Management and Marketing Organization and non-profit, we market Saskatoon as a destination for leisure and business travelers from around the province, Canada, and internationally. With any of our work, we take a ‘member/partner preferred’ approach, always prioritizing them whenever possible. Our members and partners are made up of nearly 400 businesses and organizations from across Saskatoon and region, the majority of whom pay annual dues in return for specific benefits, which include (but are not limited to) marketing support such as blogs, social media posts, digital marketing, and more. These benefits are available for any of our members or partners to utilize and participate in. If you are interested, you can see a full list of our members and partners, here. With that being said, we’re always seeking new members to join our network, ensuring accurate and authentic promotion of all that our city has to offer. We recognize that certain well-established, long-serving Saskatoon businesses are not currently part of our network, so if you have any suggestions about businesses we should reach out to or those you believe might be interested in our membership network—please don't hesitate to share them with us. In response to your comment about the low-rated restaurants that we promote, in fact many of these restaurants – some of which I have listed below, actually have quite a high rating. • Odla– 4.5 (367 Google reviews) • Odd Couple Restaurant – 4.7 (827 Google reviews) • Primal – 4.5 (523 Google reviews) • Hearth Restaurant – 4.8 (464 Google reviews) These businesses are locally owned, support our local community, and, out of the many stories that we pitch to media, are often the ones picked up and published across the world as they are unique to us as a destination. We, in turn, post and publish these stories ourselves as they align with the media’s coverage and therefore boost our strategic reach in order to create greater destination awareness. That all being said, as a small team unfortunately we do sometimes miss showcasing and sharing everything Saskatoon has to offer. To help with this, we do accept public submissions for our online calendar of events (found here) from which some of our social content is pulled. Of course, we also welcome feedback such as you have shared with us, in order to highlight things we are missing and identify where we can do better. We would love to share more information with you about the work we do, and ‘the why’ and ‘the how’ we do it. Should you want to know more or if you have any other questions, please feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] and we'd be happy to help.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic organization that does so much for our city to makes it a vibrant community that people want to live in and visit. The visitor centre is the perfect place to stop if you’re coming to the city to help make your stay even better. And the team that works behind the scenes continually draws in world-class events to our city that creates an economic impact that helps our businesses thrive.

Negative experience: "Saskatoon Shines" ... no Saskatoon smells. It smells of sewer gas. The roads are very poor with little lighting and terrible road layouts. Visiting and working in this miserable depressing industrial city in winter was awful. Driving back and forth between the work site and hotel was stressful as the roads are not snow plowed. The best thing about Saskatoon is it makes you appreciate where you come from and that eventually you can leave and go home
