The Planet Traveler Hostel is a highly rated accommodation located in the heart of Toronto, just steps away from Kensington Market. Visitors have praised the hostel for its cleanliness, friendly staff, and great amenities. Guests often highlight the spacious dorms, each equipped with en-suite bathrooms which provide added convenience. The hostel's rooftop terrace offers stunning city views, perfect for relaxing or socializing with fellow travelers.

Guests appreciate the complimentary breakfast served until 1 PM, featuring a variety of options, and the numerous nightly events that encourage a lively atmosphere. Whether it's game nights, movie screenings, or communal BBQs, there’s always something fun happening. Moreover, the communal kitchen is excellent for those looking to prepare their meals.

While many reviews are overwhelmingly positive, a few guests have mentioned occasional issues with room ventilation and some inconsistencies in customer service. Nevertheless, the overall ambiance is welcoming, making it a popular choice for both solo travelers and groups looking to connect with others.

Overall, The Planet Traveler Hostel stands out as an affordable, clean, and social environment where guests can feel at home while exploring Toronto.

Fantastic experience: I've stayed here twice in the past two months, one in an all-female dorm room, the other in an all-female pod room. Both experiences were excellent - staff gave me a guided tour on my first stay, and both times the rooms/bed areas/bathrooms were well-kept (beds and pillows are your typical hostel fare, a little on the firm/flat side, so just be prepared and bring additional padding if that is important to you). Each room having their own bathroom rather than having to share with the floor was great, as well. Also loved hanging out on the rooftop patio! Easy check in and out process as well. The hostel can be as quiet or as loud as you make it - personally I was looking for a more quiet stay, and and the other people in my room were certainly respectful of this! Great location to make use of public transport (streetcar goes right in front of the building, and other streetcar lines and the subway are nearby, as well). Kensington Market is just around the corner. I will be staying here again when I return to the city.

Fantastic experience: I wish I had took photos of the place, as this was the main thing that made me weary about coming. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the hostel is as good as the photos- and even better! The dorm I was in was prepared nicely for me, and on check in I was given a comprehensive tour of the hostel. I stayed in an all-male dorm, and was delighted to find that my dorm mates were respectful of each others' quarters. The amenities in the hostel were excellent as well, including nightly free group events on the picturesque rooftop, free popcorn, and free breakfast in the mornings. This was actually my first time ever staying at a hostel (and vacationing solo!) and The Planet Traveler made my stay unforgettable.

Fantastic experience: Highly recommend staying at this hostel! Its central location, friendly and helpful staff, and amazing amenities (cleanest hostel I have ever stayed in, breakfast included, full kitchen) make it a no-brainer. Stay here!

Negative experience: I always read reviews before I book at any place. I saw good reviews here and I fell for it. You don't have to believe me but this was my OWN experience. I have stayed in hostels in the past, But this place is the most clusterfuck, muddled mess I ever experienced, an absolute disappointment, over hyped and overpriced. Customer service is non existent. Starting from the guy at the front desk, the supposed "manager". When I arrived, he was on the phone with a guest being rude to them about a reservation and possible extention. I immediately felt unwelcomed there. You couldn't pay this guy to smile, or even pretend to be personable, I hate to generalize but maybe this is a Canadian thing, I have no idea. I hope you are reading this, you have zero customer service skills, or maybe you are just racist! you are rude and need to drop the condescending tone and that chip on your shoulder. He showed me to the dorm room and said the AC was broken in 70degrees weather with 5 other people? Hell no! I immediately asked for a room with working AC. There was no apologies for the inconvenience, he was rather offended that I asked for a room with AC. I had to apologize to him for asking for the bare minimum I paid for. My whole experience with traveling to Toronto for the first time was shaped by my stay here from moment I walked in...it was horrible. I changed my flight in the middle of the night paid a huge fare difference and left the next day back to Chicago. I had a enough. Why did I have to change rooms 3 times within the first few hours of arrival? there was always something wrong every step of the way. I went out and came back and someone else took my assigned bed and left me an unmade bed. I struggled to make the bed almost fell from the top bunk. At night there was literally no oxygen in the room, I couldn't breath, I had to go outside the main door to breath in fresh air at 11pm. Then I asked someone at the front desk to open the window in the room, She did for just 30 minutes, came back and sealed it again. I didn't get one single sleep all night. No ventilation, it was a nightmare. I could have gotten a hotel or airbnb at this point to enjoy the rest of my 3days trip, but I was so over the whole Toronto experience, all thanks to making the mistake to book this hostel in an effort to meet other travelers as a solo black female traveler. The second guy i met at the front desk in the morning loudly and confidently pronounced my name wrong, I wasn't offended, I giggled it away but then he proceeded to look me in eyes and say "Or however you pronounce that" with a straight face, I was shocked! that was disrespectful and something an uneducated person would say. The most unempathetic set of people I've ever dealt with. I made a reservation for 3nights and the next day I am requesting an early check out, You didn't bother to ask why, if the stay met my expectations or I was leaving out of disappointment, You were busy fighting me about not refunding my money for the remaining nights. You can keep the change and I hope it made you day. I hope you are finding your life's purpose working at this Hostel. Summary, the workers are rude, condescending and uncultured, and need a class or two on proper customer service,(Except Natalie and the girl who helped open the window). The rooms are Crammed and feel like a prison cell. You get one flat pillow like a piece of sliced bread, the hallways have no window, dark and dingy. They're no oxygen in the dorms, no proper ventilation, no vents in the bathroom. The AC smells moldy and doesn't even cool the rooms. The street outside the hostel smelled like piss. There's homeless people hanging around the area. Maybe you'll have better luck booking here if you are white!!

Fantastic experience: They were affordable, and still better than most hotels and hostels in the area. Not stingy, free towels, free breakfast.

Fantastic experience: I loved staying here, definitely one of the best hostels I’ve stayed in! It’s in a great location, the staff are very friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean, breakfast until 1pm, and there is great nightly activities to socialize with everyone. The only thing I would say to improve is having cushions in the inside upstairs area and adding curtains on the bunkbeds for more privacy!

Fantastic experience: We had a great stay at Planet Traveler! Staff were very friendly and informative, breakfast included, and the view of the skyline from the rooftop were some of the things that made this hostel stand out for us!

Fantastic experience: Rating: 5/5 I had an incredible stay at Planet Traveler Hostel in Toronto! This place truly exceeded my expectations in every aspect. Security: The security at the hostel is top-notch. I always felt safe with the key card access and secure lockers in the rooms. Location: The location is unbeatable, right in the heart of downtown Toronto. It’s close to major attractions, public transportation, and great restaurants and cafes. Staff: The staff was outstanding—friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help. They went out of their way to make sure my stay was comfortable and enjoyable. Atmosphere: The atmosphere was fantastic, with a great mix of travelers. The common areas were lively and perfect for meeting new people. Cleanliness: The hostel was spotless, with the cleaning staff working hard to maintain a high standard of cleanliness throughout the property. Value For Money: Planet Traveler offers excellent value for money. The prices are reasonable, and you get a lot for what you pay—free breakfast, events, and a rooftop terrace with stunning views of the city. Facilities: The facilities were superb. The kitchen was well-equipped, and the rooftop terrace was the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the cityscape. The free breakfast was a nice touch and helped me start my day off right. Overall, Planet Traveler Hostel made my trip to Toronto unforgettable. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great place to stay in the city!

Positive experience: I’ve stayed here three times, and the location is excellent—conveniently accessible from the airport by train and easy to navigate the city from. However, the pricing is on the higher side, which is somewhat expected for Toronto, but it still feels steep. The hostel uses dynamic pricing, so if you’re arriving on a weekend, especially Saturday or Sunday, expect to pay at least $110 per night for a shared bunk bed in an 8-person dorm, which is quite high. The service is generally good, with cleanliness being a priority, though there’s room for improvement. The washrooms in the dorms are sometimes only cleaned every other day, which isn’t sufficient given the number of people sharing the space. More frequent cleaning, especially twice a day, would be appreciated. As for breakfast, it’s pretty basic—bread, bananas, milk, coffee, tea, margarine, butter, cereals, and oats. Adding a simple option like poached eggs would go a long way in enhancing the experience.

Fantastic experience: Stayed in planet traveller for five nights in July. It was very very clean, the staff were very very nice and the location was brilliant for exploring around Toronto. An amazing aspect of PH was free breakfast. There were bagels, cereal and fruit which was brilliant for waking up in a foreign city hungry. The rooms were clean and the bathrooms appeared to be cleaned regularly.

Fantastic experience: An upper tier backpackers’ hostel. I was happy with my stay. Big thanks to the staff! The only complaint - the price of a bunk bed was more than I paid for a three-star hotel room in Hiroshima next to the central railway station.

Fantastic experience: I can't say enough praises about this hostel! Everything was kept clean and tidy, Xavier gave an amazing tour upon my arrival- just in time for BBQ on the rooftop, I might add- so many options for breakfast and amazing location right beside a streetcar stop. The rooftop is an amazing space with breathtaking views, modern lounge area and activities nightly. This hostel has managed to attract people of all ages and nationalities. I would 100% stay again if back in Toronto.

Fantastic experience: My weekend stay at the Planet Traveler Hostel was phenomenal thanks to the staff, always ready to help or answer questions - special mention to Alex for his kindness, cracking jokes while checking me in even at 11:45 pm. The common areas and my dorm were spotless, the view form the rooftop breathtaking. I stayed in a 8pod dorm and getting into the top pod in the middle of the night was way easier than expected since the whole structure is sturdy. Bed was comfy. On Saturday night, I decided to go play bingo on the roof and I met a whole bunch of people, we had so much fun and ended up playing bingo for 2.5 hours hahaha - thank you for organizing events like these ! Plenty of supermarkets and restaurants in the area. Easy to get almost anywhere since there are multiple bus / cable cars stops nearby. It took me less than 30 minutes to get to Billy Bishop airport the morning of my flight. I'll be back ❤️‍

Fantastic experience: I enjoyed my stay at The Planet Traveller. Friendly atmosphere promoted by the staff meant that it was easy to get to know others as a solo traveller. The view on the rooftop is a highlight in itself.

Fantastic experience: Wonderful hostel experience. I checked in just shortly after 3pm and was given a tour of the whole place. Roof top view was lovely. Very clean hostel with very friendly and helpful staff. Location is right next to Kensington market with lots of shops and food options. Will definitely be back!

Positive experience: Great hostel, with a really good atmosphere & lovely staff. Location is close to everything, and public transport is a few minutes' walk away. Breakfast is served from 7am until 1pm which is great for those of us who are not early risers! Stunning view from the roof terrace, especially at sunset. My only complaints are: The common areas shut between midnight and 7am, so you have nowhere to go if you are unable to sleep, and cannot use the kitchen. The stairs are pretty tiring when you are on the third floor. The lockers were too narrow for my backpack.

Fantastic experience: Great clean space with perks like breakfast included, fun nightly activities like trivia night and movie night, and a rooftop common area to enjoy some views and nice weather (if you can get it!) I traveled with my teen son and booked a private room with a bunk bed; the bed was a little creaky with movements in the top bunk but everything was clean and bright with good airflow (thankful for air conditioning) and decent sound dampening for the location. Being located right by Kensington Market and major streetcar routes as well as close to Exhibition and Union Stations were also bonuses. Staff was friendly and helpful. As always, other travelers can make or break the hostel experience in shared spaces and we did have some common washroom users who were less than conscientious (leaving towels, water, hair, garbage etc strewn around shared washrooms) but this has everything to do with those people and nothing to do with the hostel or its staff, who cleaned regularly and promptly. I really enjoyed this stay and would book with PT again if staying in Toronto in the future. Though I'm a middle aged mama traveling with a teen, I can also really see the draw for younger and more social people traveling solo and in groups looking to make new friends and connections abroad. I'd totally have enjoyed staying solo in my twenties. Thanks for a great stay!

Positive experience: A really nice hostel for the price, with clean pod beds and rooms. I was warmly welcomed by Kurumi, who was very kind and gave me a complete tour of the hostel. The rooftop is also very cool :) I will definitely come back.

Fantastic experience: I was wary, at age 72, of booking a room in a hostel, but I was put at ease upon arrival and, yes, even charmed by the communal spirit of Planet Traveler. The free breakfast is an agonizing choice of at least a dozen cereals, breads, peanut butter, jams and coffee. And after lounging with my coffee, it felt right to wash my own dishes and embrace a more egalitarian vibe than one would ever find at the $500/night downtown hotels. Self-laundry is available, as are bicycle rentals ($25/day w/helmet and lock), movie night and other events on the rooftop terrace. The staff is enormously helpful, but hold onto your entry card, as the front desk is closed after hours. I'm 6' tall and my bed was a bit short for my frame, but I diagonally positioned myself and managed to sleep well. The key is to relax and bask in a refreshing alternative lodging space. The chaos I had imagined was just that--imagined. Many thanks to the welcoming hosts, Robin, Nick and all the kind-hearted staffers at Planet Traveller.

Fantastic experience: I haven't stayed there yet. Just booked for my trip to Toronto end of May. I needed to make some change to my booking and was helped by "Nick" (hope that I got their name correctly). Efficient, helpful and smooth service. That makes me even more excited for my trip next month.

Fantastic experience: It was very good. The events were very nice. The breakfast was basic but also very good. I met a lot of people because of the events. The view is also very good. Most of the attractions were around 30 or 40 min away by foot or train.

Fantastic experience: Best Hostel we ever stayed in! And we stayed in many different hostels across Canada and other countries. Not the cheapest but for Canadian relations definitely a great value for money. Breakfast included comes in clutch and saves you money as well. Staff was lovely. They organize events for every night of the week which ist perfect for connecting with the other guests if you are interested in that. And everything is super clean. Restrooms, shower, kitchen... I think they clean everything multiple times a day and it really shows! We've been to hotels that weren't that clean and it definitely makes you feel very comfortable to use the common facilities. We did a 3-day trip to Montréal and came back to Toronto (and The Planet Traveler) and as absurd as it may sound it genuinely felt like coming home! All in all an amazing stay in an amazing hostel!

Fantastic experience: Absolutely fantastic hostel. After a whole week there, I couldn't think of a single thing they could do to improve. Clearly they have been taking feedback to heart and it shows! Everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful, and I made so many great friends here

Fantastic experience: I must say that The Planet Traveler Planet is honestly the best Hostel I've ever stayed at. Genuinely helpful, friendly and multilingual staff from around the world and a one of a kind hostel dog to that loves his belly rubs and to be played with. There are daily events such as arts and crafts, game and movie nights, pasta dinner, pub crawls etc., organised by the lovely team. It was and is a pleasure staying with you, and I surely will return on my next visit to Toronto

Fantastic experience: The best hostel experience I've had so far! Affordable for a young adult or traveler on a budget, clean rooms and bathrooms and wonderful accommodations all-around. I felt very welcome and safe at Planet Traveler. The hostel is right at the northernmost tip of Kensington Market, and very safely walkable to TTC stops headed downtown.

Fantastic experience: Really great. The rooms and bathrooms are sparkling clean. Environmentally friendly and socially conscious - I loved the concept of repurposing forgotten toiletries and food, and organising donations. Super nice staff too. Also, walking distance from so many things (if you don’t mind 30min walk which I am happy to do to get my steps up).

Fantastic experience: Had a really excellent stay. (Private) room was comfy and clean and quiet. Everyone (staff and guests) was super friendly and helpful, and understanding when i arrived utterly exhausted and had to ask all the same questions three times. View from the roof is stunning. Location is good as a base to explore as well.

Fantastic experience: I've stayed there twice and I think it's a great place. Perfect location, clean, friendly staff, cute rooftop with a nice view and fully equipped kitchen. Bunk beds are not very firm and kind of noisy but besides this, is a 5 star hostel for me.

Fantastic experience: I stayed in an 8-pod bedroom. The beds were arranged in "wooden cubes" and the noise isolation is pretty good. There is a bathroom with a shower inside the bedroom, which is very convenient. The lockers are pretty spacious. The hostel provides free breakfast and the community kitchen is very cozy and it is very easy for you to get to know other guests in the community kitchen. The hostel is located in a pretty convenient location and it is a short walk from the subway station. You can also walk to museums and different downtown spots easily.

Fantastic experience: The location is great and the rooms were clean. Breakfast was provided and even had fresh fruit and milk. The beds have actual duvets instead of just thin throw blankets like a lot of hostels. The receptionists and other guests were friendly.

Fantastic experience: good experience for my first hostel stay! the room is clean and all ok. i booked the 6 beds room and although it’s small (understandable) we all have our personal space and i really like it. i think the most important thing is how friendly the staffs are (and how cute the dog is) (tell him i love him) they also have information boards for toronto events so it’s really helpful to generally plan your trips. i love a little bit of social interaction between people, it is obtional so it’s nice. i didn’t really participate in many activities, but it’s great that they all have boardgames prepared so we can use it in our free time. also love the kitchen, there is a asian supermarket nearby (3 mins walk) so it’s really GOOD if you want to cook for yourself. the location is fantastic, not far from downtown and close to streetcars, very great for travelling in toronto.

Positive experience: Stayed a few years ago, the place is a great location, had my boots stolen from my bag and found them in someone else bag. Fantastic experience: The owner clearly cares about his guests. The hostel feels like a beloved family member, it’s so clean, organized and full of happy people, at least in my experience. Certified vibe. Pulled up 10pm, cute German girl helped me check in. They showed me around the place everyone super friendly. My room was nicer than i expected and the bathroom was cleaner than i expected as well. Great local T.O dickens literally 5 min walk open 24/hrs if you fly in late. After I got a late meal, I was able to meet some cool cats on the interior roof that’s separated from outside so it wasn’t freezing. Would definitely recommend to others

Fantastic experience: The Planet Traveler Hostel has a lot of things going for it. The value really can't be beat. Toronto is a very expensive city for lodging, but the prices here are very reasonable. I stayed 3 nights in a room with pod-style beds. Given the comfort limitations of pod sleeping versus a traditional hotel room, it was as comfortable as it could have been. I needed to pad my pillow a bit, but it worked great after that (you may want to bring your own). Everyone else staying in the room was quiet and respectful of the others staying there. The room had a thermostat and big lockers, free of charge (I was nearly able to fit my entire suitcase in the locker). The location of the hostel is excellent. It's very walkable and close to public transit. I ate delicious Middle Eastern food 3 times, at 3 different spots, all within a 1 minute walk. I also stumbled upon a cool book/music shop just across the street. The rooftop patio and view were great. I enjoyed the staff, all friendly and helpful. I hung out a lot in the lobby, on the huge couch, while people came and went. Customers checking in or with questions were taken care of quickly. The hostel had an event every evening. The breakfast options were plentiful. For as "no frills" as it is, the extras such as events and the complimentary breakfast were very nice. Lastly, the hostel seemed to be reasonably eco-conscious without going overboard. I'll be back, and I'd recommend it!

Fantastic experience: One of the best hostels I've stayed. The staff was so nice, particularly Robin. He carried my bag up the stairs for me and rearranged rooms to make my stay easier. Really good vibes/ people amongst the guests. Cute hostel dog Shadow. No hidden costs (lockers, luggage room for free). Really felt like home and worth the price. Highly recommend for solo travelers!

Fantastic experience: We had a private room with a bathroom shared with three others rooms like ours. The room was good, clean, not much space for our stuff but for three nights it was alright. Rooms were calm but there were many people to meet on the rooftop and kitchen. Many activities proposed by the staff. Breakfast included with lots of choice. Free coffee all day. Overall that was a super experience. It’s easy to get to the hotel once you understand how Toronto bus service works (tramways are mixed with normal traffic and stops are in the middle of the road ??? We were not used to this)

Fantastic experience: this is a great hostel. i've stayed in a lot of places. these guys are helpful, friendly, and the right amount of social. it's not quit forced but it's almost default to be a little social. having a late all you can eat breakfast really helps and encourages chatting. the communal space is big enough but not too big. the location is ideal. it's a great place. Toronto is just expensive therefore so is this compared to other cities. but it's good value for Toronto!

Fantastic experience: This was a cool first experience of a hostel. We got a private room which was simple but comfortable. It was still a shared bathroom but everything was clean and roomy. There's no elevator so you get your steps in. The view from the roof was outstanding! The staff were also phenomenal. You could see the skyline of downtown quite well. They also had things to do every evening if you stuck around to chill. You could walk a few minutes and reach the streetcars which could get you anywhere you need to go. Would definitely recommend this place if you're in Toronto.

Positive experience: Great hostel for Toronto, lovely rooftop view and amazing location right next to Kensington Market. Be prepared you might spend all your money there Staff were friendly. They helped a lot when I lost my phone on the TTC and having access to their computers in the lounge was a lifesaver. I wish the washrooms were a bit larger as they feel a bit tight, but they work. I wish there was a 4 person dorm room option for females, as 6 can sometimes get a bit hectic with the washroom if you want to shower or brush your teeth. There are lots of other washrooms if you just need the toilet, though. My personal light in my bunk didn't work, so make sure to check that and let the staff know. You can get towels here and change them at any time, so don't need to pack towels and save space in your luggage. Free breakfast is amazing, especially since it lasts from 7 am to 1pm. Some days I just had breakfast and lunch at the hostel to save money. They offer unlimited bagels, cereal, coffee and tea for breakfast. They have a dog that comes around in the morning who is super cute, but just be aware if you're scared of dogs or have allergies. Would rate 4.5 stars

Fantastic experience: I loved my stay here(2 nights, wed-fri in a 8 person mixed pod room). Cleanly, comfortable common areas, outdoor rooftop deck a plus, indoor air conditioned seating area to still enjoy the rooftop in bad/hot weather. The nightly social events are a really nice touch and convenient, do not miss the pub crawl we had so much fun. My favorite part about this stay was the LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION really easy to commute to/around this area. 1 block from Kensington Market, and plenty of food options on the same street of the hostel. 2 complaints, in the 8 person pod room there's only 1 bathroom in the room with the shared half bath on the floor. With 8 adults it can be over an hour wait for bathroom/shower access. Yes I've stayed in hostels before but usually I've seen where the toilet/shower and sink are separate so 1 person doesn't lock up the entire bathroom while only showering or using the toilet. Each floor has about 5/6 rooms ranging from 4-8 beds each I believe so the one shared half bath on our floor is almost always in use and your key card only gives you access to your floor. Also, in the pod rooms there isn't a locker locker like the small lockers in the non-pod rooms, it's a cube locker cubby sort that can fit a small purse and other small valuables. I had no issues with stuff going missing my entire room ppl left stuff out but everyone may not feel this way. And the with the actual pod itself I loved sleeping in it BUT I hate the access, like needing to climb fully in to reach something in the cubby/shelf while I was fully dressed. Not very hygiene to be crawling all over bedsheets in outside clothes, not a complaint more of an annoyance. I would definitely stay here again.

Fantastic experience: Brilliant place! Having stayed across the world, I never thought the single best view from a hotel would be from the roof of a hostel, but this place takes the crown. We arrived late, but Alex was on hand to check us in and give us a tour of the hostel, as well as some useful information for some places that were still open. Breakfast is perfect if you want to fill up quickly before a long day out, or take time to chill downstairs with a bagel and a coffee. Nightly activities from movie nights to board games and bingo. They also sold Blue Jays tickets which is handy. We had a private room with a shared bathroom which was good. The room itself was quite basic but comfy enough. Shared bathroom worked well as its only two other rooms you're sharing with. Not been in a hostel for a while, if they were all like this I'd stay in more of them for sure!

Fantastic experience: It was the best place in Toronto I had really wonderful time at there and met lots of people from the rooftop. All the steps were so kind. Also the burger of the bbq party is so good!

Positive experience: Excellent location, service and social events every evening. Very clean and a good breakfast is included and the kitchen is almost fully equipped (no oven!). Affordable if you book early, but more on the pricy side with 83$ per night now. The only negative was the squeaky bed, asked the staff for equipment to fix it. Was told to let them fix which they didn't.

Fantastic experience: Great experience! We stayed in a private room which shared a bathroom with 3 other private rooms but in the rare moment it was full, there were tons of bathrooms elsewhere. Rooftop with great views and nightly social events. Breakfast was yummy breads and cereals free and til early afternoon. Being right off Kensington was a huge plus. Only some things to flag if it’ll be an issue: dog wandering lobby (friendly and chill), rooms up to 3 stories, no elevator. No wifi reaching our room but standing right outside our door it worked fine. Not a problem for us!

Negative experience: I didn’t have my ID with me and and the manager started shouting at me and wouldn’t be helpful at all not suggest solutions and he pushed me to cancel my reservation while I explained I have no place to stay. I told him I’ll go get my id and come back and he stated shouting at me and saying I am being passive aggressive with him and he don’t like me and don’t want me to stay in the hostel and will cancel my reservation. I explained I have no where to go and I am sorry if I hurt him somehow but he wouldn’t care and kicked me out.

Fantastic experience: My friend and I stayed at Planet Traveler for Memorial Day weekend. It was one of the best trips I’ve taken and it was mostly because of this wonderful hostel. It was my first time staying at a hostel, so I had no clue what to expect. When we walked in, we were greeted by friendly staff who gave us a great tour of the hostel and it’s amenities. The rooftop is a gem and great for pictures with the cityscape in the background. My most favorite thing about this hostel is the almost immediate sense of community. I’ve always been pretty shy, but I love meeting new people. The hostel has group activities each night so you can get to know everyone. Bingo night was a blast. I enjoyed meeting people from all over the world. Everyone was friendly and respectful, we had no issues at all. World peace exists at Planet Traveler. I also loved the affordable room prices, free breakfast, the doggy, the on site parking, the location, the storage lockers with outlets, and that each dorm has a bathroom. I cannot wait to visit again! Thank you Planet Traveler.

Fantastic experience: I spend 7 days in this hostel. It was a great experience thanks to Robin and his great team. Events, rooms, breakfast everything was very well organized. Thank you guys!!!

MaxTodd Carey 2 years ago

Negative experience: It was not the greatest experience. Firstly, when I approached Planet regarding an error in my booking, I was told (by Jason) repeatedly that I should be “grateful” they adjusted my booking. This felt dismissive and unhelpful. Secondly, I was informed that Planet does not have a bilateral relationship with Hostelworld and did not notify Hostelworld of any changes, which led to unclear communication and the booking error. When I expressed my surprise at this, Jason looked at me as if I was stupid for not knowing that booking agents do not communicate bilaterally. I've literally been on the road for 25+ years and never encountered this before. When changing a booking with one partner organization, they should inform the other, or at very minimal tell me I should. Thirdly, I was also told that even if I had canceled my booking on Hostelworld, I would not have receive a refund. This is simply and completely untrue. Fourthly, neither Hostelworld nor Planet wants to take responsibility for any of the above, and I am out 100 bucks for nothing. Be prepared and take note: each both organizations will simply blame the other. In fact, I just received another email from Planet telling me it's not their problem, and urging me to contact the people that told me it was not their problem..

Fantastic experience: Great hostel for being in Toronto. Was the cheapest option but did not feel cheap. Place was clean and had stunning views of the skyline on the top balcony. Walking distance to downtown (about 20-30 mins), right by the metro line, and right on the edge of the vibrant Kensington Market. Big free breakfast spread too that was served from 7am(I think) until 1pm.

Fantastic experience: I will definitely come back. I got a all girls room which was great, thanks guys. The bathroom was clean, the whole place is nice. People who work there are super helpful. Walking distance to many places and so many cafes and late night food available around. Thanks again

Fantastic experience: The hostel is easily accessible by public transport and is located next to Kensington Market, where you'll find food options for any cravings you have - Latin food, smoothies, Italian, Middle Eastern etc. The staff is super helpful. Breakfast is decent. You'll definitely meet a lot of nice people, and find someone to explore the city or party with. The hostel offers daily evening activities, yet if you just want to relax, it's a quiet and cozy place.

Fantastic experience: I could have put 6/5 !! It's such a good place. I stayed 4 nights here, and the staff is so kind. They organize activities almost every night so you can meet new people easily. The commun spaces are really good : kitchen is always clean, and the breakfast is perfect to save money and visit all the days without eating anything else. I highly recommend this hostel were I slept really well and had a lot of fun !! It's at 30mn of walk of the financial district and all the touristic part of the city, no obligation to take public transport (and it's close if we need). The dorms are really quiet and clean as well. If I go again to Toronto one day I'd definitely come back to this place !! Thanks to the staff for all their good work <333

Fantastic experience: Great hostel for travelers of all kinds. I came to visit Toronto for a few days alone. This was a great location - walking distance to China town, museums, stores and convenient public transport. Staff was awesome and the hostel activities were a great way to meet people! I felt very safe. I stayed in the pods and the female dorm I recommend the pods - less noisy and more privacy compared to the metal bunk beds in the dorm. Both were great though!

Fantastic experience: Almost in tears when I had to leave this place on the last day! I had such a fantastic experience. Of course, the facilities are top notch, the hygiene is spectacular, the kitchen is superbly equipped and the location is just the best it ever could be. But more than that, every passionate soul who works here is committed to giving guests an unforgettable experience! Do look forward to the daily activities organized by them. And experience the warmth that they add to your travels with their helpful nature, friendly banter and glowing smiles! Taking back the best of memories and friends from this place. And shall be back again, for sure! Thank you Natasha, Robin, Rozenn, Alex, and everyone else whom I may not have interacted much with but played their role in making my stay a fantastic experience. And of course, lots of love to Shadow!

Fantastic experience: I spent 2 weeks in the hostel and everything was perfect. All the staff was charming, kind, smiling and always available for everything and anything. The view from the rooftops is amazing! They plan activities each and every evening. I really appreciated my time there, they took a very good care of the guests! When I'll be back in Canada, if I have to go to Toronto, I'll definitely book a bed there! Thank you so much for everything!

Fantastic experience: What can I say about Planet Traveller? Words probably. Hopefully relevant words in the right order. The atmosphere is homely and extremely pleasant thanks to the friendly and welcoming staff (inc. Shadow the dog). Communal events are run regularly such as pasta night on Saturdays (barbecue in the summer) and various other events that I sadly didn’t have time for during my stay. Breakfast is included in your booking, clothes washing facilities are available at a small charge and there was, at the time of my visit, an alarming quantity of free microwave popcorn. The dormitories have a clean and appealing en suite attached where you can shower your person, grind plant-flavoured abrasive paste into the shiny white bones in your mouth or simply stare into the black abyss of your reflection’s pupils and silently sob. Presumably. If one desired. If you don’t wish to have a solo existential crisis, you might be interested in the large common room on the ground floor. Pick a language and there’s probably someone there who’ll speak it (It’s generally best to pick a language that you can speak when starting a conversation though). Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Planet Traveller and would strongly recommend it. It has personality and it isn’t expensive.

Fantastic experience: I mean, for less than 100 bucks, you have to! If you aren't into dorms and sharing spaces and really want privacy, this place isn't for you. But if you want to meet amazing people from around the world and be hosted by some of the nicest people in the city, this place is for you! It's clean, central, well desgined and the rooftop view is worth the admission itself. They have fun themed events, a breakfast and area to cook your own food. The beds even have a lamp and plug to charge your stuff and a holder for your phone on your bunk. Can you tell we had fun and would recommend? If you are a hostel person, this is the place for you!

Fantastic experience: Booked my stay on a whim and I was blown away. Never stayed in a hostel before but I’ll be sure to come back if I’m in Toronto again. Great staff, great facilities, a lot of cool people traveling through, and nightly activities to help break the ice. Lockers provided with your room, parking right outside (a little bit extra), and a full kitchen with cookware and plates if you’d prefer to eat in. Tell Shadow I said Hi

Fantastic experience: Great hostel! Canada isn't big on hostels like Europe or Asia but this one is great! It's clean, full kitchen, secure and great location. The 6 bed female dorm had an en-suite. They have a activities on most nights. Common areas are on the small side but they've arranged it so well: couches, 2 computers, 2 dining tables and 2-3 phone booths (nice for a private call or something). They also have a rooftop, books and games.

Fantastic experience: Had a lovely stay here over break! Very clean and everyone was so considerate, quiet in the rooms and cheerful in the public space. I had to leave earlier than what I booked, but the hostel was kind enough to refund the nights I didn’t stay. Incredible hostel experience that made my traveling journey all the better.

Fantastic experience: Pros: - Updated facilities, including nice bathrooms and private rooms. - Close to streetcar stops and rest of city. - Very kind and helpful staff. - Rooftop terrace gives an incredible view. - Nightly events like trivia and pub crawls. - Sense of community. Cons: - A bit limited for space in halls and bathrooms etc. - I think there's no elevator so it's inaccessible for some people. I would recommend es

Positive experience: Great location, vibe and people. There's even a cute dog on site! However, I was quite disappointed to have gotten bed bug bites while staying there. Both days I woke up in my private room with bites on my body. When I checked out a day early, politely informing the staff of why, they refused a refund unless they were able to find bed bugs in the room. Naturally, they couldn't find them. Despite having photographic evidence of the bites I was denied a refund which is unfortunate when traveling as I had to pay out of pocket for another place of accommodation (they did offer me another room, but I didn't want to take the risk). For someone who has dealt with bedbugs in the past, just because you don't see them and others haven't had an issue, doesn't mean they aren't there. Really disappointed that they weren't willing to rectify the issue and because of that, I wouldn't recommend.

Positive experience: This hostel is in a great location, in Kensington Market near lots of pubs and places to eat. It also had evening activities most nights which were good fun (including free dinner on Saturday). The roof terrace also has a beautiful view, and the room was en-suite with a good shower. Free breakfast and all-day free coffee was also great, and the kitchen was always nice and clean. The hostel also had a great crowd of people who I had a lot of fun with. My only real gripe with this hostel is there is noone on reception between midnight and 7am, which seems to include even in emergencies. Whilst we were there someone set the fire alarm off at 3am, so the whole hostel had to evacuate, yet no staff members seemed to be about so we had to wait for the fire brigade to come, and they couldn't even disable the alarm. Really there should be a member of staff on the premises at all times, even if not on reception.

Fantastic experience: The staff was truly an exceptional team. Along with the free breakfast, that is only the beginning. We also had a bingo night and pasta dinner. All included! I highly recommend staying here. Thank you!

Positive experience: She et Lenka Super Friendly and Nice! Accessible to Kesington Market, Chinatown, good transportation, good eats and walking. However, my dorm room wasn't what I expected..I even asked the owner why we didn't have hooks to hang up our jacket and towel. He told me that I could hang towel on the white thing (I said the person above me would climb the ladder). He got the point and said it was a work in process. I went to sink and he asked if I had anything else to complain about..told him I wanted to wash my glass..told me I can wash in the sink..couldn't find sponge r soap. Then proceeded to tell me that its the girl's (worker) job to do it. I didn't like his attitude! There wasn't a lot of space to store our stuff. Bed was comfortable but slightly claustrophobic. Also, if he put a purple shade over the Super bright light on rooftop, it would be super chilled like a lounge and have the surrounding lights would highlight the views!

Fantastic experience: Amazing staff so very friendly & helpful. Shadow the dog is such a delight to have around, beautiful boy. Hostel is very clean & beds are comfy. Well equipped kitchen, with a free breakfast, huge range of cereals & bagels. Close to street car station & also to loads of eating places. Fantastic views of the city from the rooftop area. Excellent location, highly recommend this hostel.

Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, good location. It was second time back in Toronto after three years. It's second Hostel I stayed in Toronto. They give you a nice tour after check you in. Unlike other Hostels they serve breakfast until 1pm. So you have lots of time to sleep if your out socially in the late evening. Met a lot of Great people from other countries. They were all friendly. As for the rooms they were alright no complains. I requested a Bottom but not guaranteed. However, they said the Bottom bed was still vacant after I checked in for 15 mins I can have it. That was generous of them. They were very helpful with all the Historical locations in Toronto. Because of them made my second visit to Toronto a better one. I highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: For the price of one night's stay at a hotel, I'm here all week! Free wifi, gorgeous rooftop patio, lower level workspaces, privacy booths for calls, kitchen with free food and coffee, laundry facilities, etc. Also, they have a friendly dog that just hangs out with any guests that want to pet him. They also organize social events with all guests. I wasn't sure what to expect but they were loads of fun and I met so many people like this. I've stayed at hostels before, but this one tops them all. I've also stayed in Toronto before, but I have never had so much fun as I did staying here. 100% recommend!

Fantastic experience: Stayed here the 23rd to 26th of September, and I had an amazing time. I met so many interesting people, enjoyed the activities, and loved how within 30 minute walk you can discover so much! I forgot to leave my contact info for my housemates. But when I return to Toronto, I will return here. Thanks!

Fantastic experience: I feel bad that I didn't get to write a review on hostel world. Anyway, this hostel is one of the best I've ever been... I'm canadian, and I had low expectations when it came to the social experience. Let me tell you, wow, the rooftop was amazing! It allowed me to meet people from all over the world. There are lockers which I found really convenient. The staff was so nice! The place was clean. The shower was sooooo good... I had nice hot shower with amazing water pressure. Everything exceeded my expectations. As a solo traveler, I felt like I had a healthy balance between alone time and fun time with others. Merci beaucoup!

Fantastic experience: This was an amazing hostel! Such a warm and friendly atmosphere from both the staff and the others staying there. The rooftop is a great place to hang out during the day and watch the sunset. The hostel also hosts social events which means we could really get to make friends :)
