OPG's visitor centre downstream from our Saunders hydro station showcases the history of the St. Lawrence Seaway and Power Project and so much more.
OPG respectfully acknowledges that the lands on which its generating stations and other assets are located are within the traditional and treaty territory of many Indigenous communities. Click to read more.
Central Ontario is home to 20 of our hydroelectric facilities, some of which, like our Sills Island Generating Station, have been part of their community for more than one hundred years.
Eastern Ontario is host to one gas-fired generating station and 15 of our hydroelectric generating stations on the St. Lawrence, Ottawa and Madawaska Rivers.
Northeastern Ontario contains 14 of our hydroelectric stations, including several we built or redeveloped through key partnerships with local Indigenous communities.
The golden horseshoe of Southern Ontario is home to key operations including our Darlington and Pickering nuclear stations in Clarington and Pickering.

Located on the banks of the St. Lawrence River, Ontario Power Generation's (OPG's) visitor centre showcases the history of the St. Lawrence Seaway and Power Project as well as the communities and people affected, and great biodiversity stories like the American Eel.
Learn about Harold Town, the famous Canadian painter responsible for creating the timeless St. Lawrence Power Project Mural abstract mural, a timeless piece that still hangs in the powerhouse today.
This stunning three-canvas painting depicts the traditional lifestyle of the Mohawks of Akwesasne prior to European contact. The mural emphasizes the importance the mighty St. Lawrence River played to the Mohawk’s everyday life. This painting was completed in 2016 by the late Mohawk Artist John B. Thomas.
For over 60 years, OPG and the New York Power Authority have worked together to produce power and manage water on the St. Lawrence River. Find out how this example of international cooperation developed and how it continues today.
Do you have what it takes to be a hydroelectric operator? Find out by taking simulated controls of the R.H. Saunders Generating Station and provide clean power to Ontarians.
The centre will reopen in May 2024. If you would like to inquire about booking auditorium space, an educational tour, or schedule a large group tour, please contact us.

Expérience fantastique: Newer and very clean hydroelectric dam visitor center. We stopped as a family to learn about the dam. They have a great self-guided tour as well, as a video you can watch to learn about the dam. The building was very clean, newer, and had a lot of great information. I could see spending anywhere from a half an hour to 2 hours reading and exploring. Very nice restrooms, and the employees were very welcoming. Larger parking lot, along with trails.
Expérience fantastique: Friendly staff. Great place to visit. I learned some new things.

Expérience positive: Went to the March break event with the animals. Kida loved it. Only downfall was that in the room, the lighting wasn't the best to try and take a few pictures and that they said they'd have an owl and there wasn't one. Lol Nice little museum. And trails around the Dam in summer.
Expérience fantastique: Very friendly staff! The facility is very clean and well looked after. Big thanks to the civil department over at Saunders
Expérience fantastique: Loved it Great rainy day activity
Expérience fantastique: Our tour guide was indeed knowledgeable about the history and issues that arose as the dam was being built. Exceptionally knowledgeable ( Ms Gauthier). Totally worth it.

Expérience fantastique: Very nice place to walk around down the bike path
Expérience fantastique: Total hidden gem while passing through Cornwall. Had a free tour of the visitors center from very knowledgeable and friendly staff.
Expérience fantastique: Contrary to what was posted online, the visitor Center is open!! We just visited today expecting it to be closed, and it was well worth the trip. We were welcomed and given a free tour by two nice ladies who did a fabulous job. We learned a lot, also watched a short movie about the construction. They also recommended other interesting sites in the area that we will plan to visit on this trip or our next trip. Tomorrow … Upper Canada Village, now we know the backstory!
Expérience fantastique: Nice vistors area ... friendly staff ...
Expérience fantastique: Detailed storey description of the history that went into the building of the Dam .lots of visual presentations of the actual functioning and electric production.
Expérience fantastique: For a free tour if you are in the area is a must. We had a very friendly, knowledgeable tour guide. It was a real eye opener as to the co-operation of the Canadian and American gov't to accomplish this huge undertaking. There was a short video that really gave you a sense of the work /planning that went into it. Definitely put this on your agenda.
Expérience fantastique: Very educational place with a history lesson of the st. Lawrence seaway
Expérience fantastique: It was a splendid visit. Staff were knowledgable and friendly. The video presentation was really interesting. Definitely worth visiting if you are in the area.
Expérience fantastique: Nice place to bring the kids, free for everyone Staff is super friendly and knowledgeable
Expérience fantastique: We went there two weeks ago on Monday and didn't realize the center was closed. Matt is very nice and he made an exception and let us in. He intruduced the history of dam and played the video for us even though he was not on duty.
Expérience fantastique: It was very helpful in understanding the hydro changes in our province.
Expérience fantastique: Grandkids loved it. Lots of hands on things to do.
Expérience fantastique: It was awesome! The tour guide was very informative without being boring, it was interesting and had fun activities for the kids and adults. Probably spent about 1.5 hours total there without watching the movie and it was all fun.
Expérience fantastique: Very educational about the history of st lawrence power dam and infrastructure development
Expérience fantastique: Guided tour was excellent and it's free
Expérience fantastique: We love this place. -- Visit their website or facebook for any activities they may be having. -- The entire facility is hands on. Learn about the dam, i'ts history, their safety precautions, how to run turbines, interactive games.. the list goes one. We recommend this place. 100 % They recently had a teddy bear picnic. we thoroughly enjoyed all the information that was giving and he activities that were prepared!
Expérience fantastique: A fantastic interpretive experience...tells the complete story of the birth of the St. Lawrence Seaway and the North American cooperation in the pursuit of cheap hydro-electric power and joint commercial success!
Expérience fantastique: Went to the open house.. we were very well received. Great staff!
Expérience fantastique: Nice enviroment to go to view interestings things to see..also great for booking a conference room
Expérience fantastique: We were 4 adults. My husband and myself and my in laws who were visiting. We took the tour with 4 other people same situation as us. Chris was our guide. I wasn't sure what to expect, but having a guide walk you through the exhibits and speak to you made it quite enjoyable and fun! We all enjoyed our tour, history lessons and information learned. Left with knowledge, took a little booklet and the free DVD! I highly recommend going wether you have children or not! And definitely if you can get a guide to give you the tour, even better experience! Fun time for all ages! Not a lot of walking, which is perfect for those who cannot walk a great deal. Thank you for a lovely time! The Mounts.
Expérience fantastique: You gotta do the tour. Lots and lots of information it could have been overwhelming, but our Guide was patient and knowledgeable. Felt both proud and sad about the forward and backwards treatment of this tremendous project. The environmental and human partnerships looks like much work has been done and will continue to have more in the future. Simply a great place to spend a few hours in.
Expérience fantastique: Very interesting showcase of the Dam, you can take pretty nice pictures of the dam from the balcony. Also there is a bike path running around the whole complex. Not in the dam obviously.
Expérience fantastique: Excellent info about the dam and the centre - staff are dedicated to making it a great experience and are well versed in the artwork there as well. The view is wonderful too. Great walking and cycling paths, with water fill up station, bathrooms and benches.
Expérience fantastique: This is the Visitor Centre of the Cornwall Seaway Power Dam. When open, it is very informative on how the St Laurent River got re directed and flooding many villages in the surrounding area to create the Dam. Shows the mass relocation of many of the homes of many of the residents to their new present day locations nearby.
Expérience fantastique: Fantastic place, not well known. Great views of the river and power dam.
Expérience fantastique: Great experience and super fun. Good learning experience. I also like fishing behind the building lol.
Expérience fantastique: Very informative, interactive and even some hands on displays. Friendly staff, clean restrooms. My favorite was the balcony with view of the river and the dam.
Expérience fantastique: I have no interest in hydro plants but everything was so well put together, designed and installed that it kept me interested and learning.
Expérience fantastique: Nice place for a family visit
Expérience fantastique: The employees were very welcoming and helpful and knowledgeable about answering any questions. The size of the place and the machinery was awe inspiring . A wonderful experience. Looking forward to my next visit .
Expérience fantastique: If you like learning about industry, history and innovation, then stop by for a cool interactive museum/meeting space.
Expérience fantastique: Free parking, and cool museum. Its small, but a lot of information and great views of the damn, and St. Lawrence.
Expérience fantastique: Best place to give intro on hydro dam for kids. Amazing to know the history behind this place.
