She went above and beyond to ensure our mistake was fixed and that we got an excellent rate. And all in less than 15 minutes! We don’t live in Nanaimo, but if we did, Heather would be our go-to for all insurance needs.

Expérience négative: I went in to renew my insurance with them today, as I had heard good things. The lady at the front desk was very smiley, however, the insurance agent that I use didn’t give me a smile or ask how I was doing….or really even give me the time of day. After she waved at the front desk woman that she could help me, I had to wait while she finished up on her cel phone before she addressed me. It was like she did not want to be there, I feel like they could use a few lessons in customer service. I guess I could say at least the service was fast. I also had a stroller and they watched as I struggled to get in the door, and I had to ask for assistance on my way out. I am unsure if it is a building manager or the company itself that owns this unit, but I would strongly suggest getting a handicap button for the door, how someone in a wheelchair would get in is beyond me.

Expérience négative: Weird vibes at this place. Didn’t feel welcome at any point and the staff weren’t helpful. Went to a different broker and they were patient and willing to help.

Expérience négative: Customer service has yet to be invented here. We were treated just plain rude. There were several mistakes made in a simple car insurance and we were asked to ‘just sign’. They would ‘straighten it out’ the next day. No thank you, never again.

Expérience négative: All the agents are very friendly and helpful, however they have messed up multiple times with my various insurance claims. In October 2022, I discovered they were still charging me one of my private insurance add-ons on a vehicle thati hadn't owned since May 2021. I had even insured my newer vehicle with them, and they hadn't noticed nor removed the extra insurance on the previous vehicle. It took a while, but they corrected the issue, and I eventually got the payments refunded (backdated to when it was supposed to be). (This took months) This month, while doing a comprehensive budget, I noticed I was still being charged for insurance they had issued me. This was from ANOTHER private insurance company. This turned out to be on the second vehicle I had insured with them. I have lived out of province for over a year, and when I went through the process to cancel the first set of insurance (which should have originally been cancelled when I bought the second vehicle), they didn't tell me I was still paying insurance on the second vehicle. During this whole process, I had signed a release of interest, and had sent them copies of my new insurance in my new province, as well. Now I am going through the process of canceling this second insurance policy, which should have been cancelled ages ago. I will most likely get all my payments returned and back dated, which is awesome, but I shouldn't be going through this process at all. Just be aware, and keep track of all the little extras that you're paying for, even when you have new vehicles insured with them

Katie M at Maxxam in Nanaimo walked me through the entire policy process and I was able to leave feeling confident and have a better understanding in the process. She was so kind and patient with all of my questions and has since referred me to other brokers within Maxxam for medical insurance as well. We were so excited to tell our employees that with the money we were saving on our business insurance we, as a small business were able to secure full medical benefits for all staff!! I have since had Katie look over my vehicle insurance and she was able offer me more affordable and better coverage as well. If you do business with Maxxam, make sure to ask for Katie.

Expérience négative: I personally went in to the company to cancel all policies on Jan 18 /22. I gave them the folder with all the policies so as to be sure everything would be canceled. Here it is March 02/22 and I’m going through my bank statement only to see that they have debited my account on Feb01/22 and again on March 01/22. When I called them to inquire why I was still being billed , their excuse was I didn’t specifically say each policy by name. Even though both policies to be canceled were in the folder. I was told they can’t give me the refund. Not only did they do this me , they also did it to my spouse who had multiple policies with them. Only through a not so pleasant debate they said they would give us the refund. Insurance companies who make record profits every year pulling scams like this on the clients that give them business is unacceptable. Shame on you taking advantage of people to increase your profit margins.

ICBC has a galactic circus of fees, charges and other nonrefundable eye gouges, but that's not Maxxam's fault. If I could, I'd pour a hot coffee on ICBC: that's the only part of my experience that was missing today.
