Public transit in Canada's capital
Starting Tuesday, August 15: R1, R1 express and R1 Para service will not operate. A new service called Shuttle Express will be introduced. Shuttle Express will run every 10 minutes:
Wednesday, June 21: we have retired our OC Transpo app for iOS and partnered with Transit to provide Ottawa users with free access to the Royale subscription.
OC Transpo is committed to delivering the best possible service to customers. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been significant changes to how often and how many customers use transit.
With the upcoming opening of Stage 2 O-Train extensions, we are reviewing the transit planning principles that are used to shape the bus route network.
You may have noticed new fare readers on buses and at O-Train Line 1 fare gates recently. These fare readers have upgraded capabilities that allow more kinds of fares to be tapped and scanned.
Have you checked out our new Rack & Roll practice bike rack? It was first introduced at Hurdman Station last fall. Each month, the practice bike rack moves to a new location. This makes it easier for cyclists to try it out in their own area. Keep checking back to find out where you can try out the practice bike rack each month.
Paying for your Para Transpo trip just got easier. All Para Transpo minibuses and taxis now have smartcard readers, giving you the option to pay your fare with a Presto card.
Whether you’ve commuted with us in the past or you’re new to transit, we have affordable and flexible options for travelling to your office and back, any day of the week. Together, OC Transpo and STO provide service to all major Government of Canada workplaces, with fare options to suit the needs of every customer.
Our teams are closely monitoring ridership demand and trends as federal government workers return to the workplace. We have capacity for returning commuters and we are prepared to make changes to service where there is a need.
OC Transpo Office: Reviews
Negative experience: I propose to make the day when public transport in Ottawa will run on time a national holiday
Negative experience: never on time bus 168 waiting 1 hour and 30mins and still did not come.. joke bus service worst in the world
Negative experience: EXTREMELY RUDE DRIVERS… You do realize this is a service. Yes, I fully understand that you come across annoying situations and people throughout your shift but you do not need to take it out on your customers. Why are you yelling at someone not to stand near the back doors when they weren’t (they were near the presto scanner), why are you not politely answering if your going to “x” location, why aren’t you stopping the bus near the clear patch of road instead right in front of a snow bank, why are you letting some people not pay but yell at others when they walk right in, why are you getting made when someone is trying to run for the bus (you guys either come late or early, how is someone going to adequately show up? Also do you think they want to be late for the bus??), why are you speeding fast when half of the bus are people standing (they barely have balance on a moving vehicle let alone a speeding one)…. I don’t know why you allow your bus drivers to have this level of petty, rude, inconsiderate behaviour… We can see the bus number you are driving, what line and what time you arrived at a certain location and inform OC about you the driver without your name… remember that.
Positive experience: ACCCCCCCCCEBR
Negative experience: Never on time, or some are even not show up! People gotta go work! Damn this system!
Negative experience: This is a government transportation system. If you work for the government or the city they will design routes for your convenience. People that have to take the bus to place other than government locations are ignored. Case in point during pandemic all the route for government employees where at full capacity even though they all stayed home. It was more important to run empty buses for three years. Rather than improving service for the rest of the city.
Negative experience: The worst transit in Canada
Negative experience: Buses are always late. That's a shame.
Negative experience: How are buses always late with virtually no passengers?? I'm sick of paying for a service that clearly isn't holding up their end.
Fantastic experience: Good morning. I wanted get this to you before the year ends. I have just moved to Ottawa and have decided to get rid of my car. I came from a northern community and travelled Hwy 400 but do not want to deal with Ottawa traffic. I just wanted you to know how pleased I have been with the bus service. I am getting around quite well with the help of the drivers who have shown me the utmost courtesy. I already have a Presto card and will keep track of my trips and may apply for a senior's monthly card in the new year. I think it is wonderful that seniors ride free on Wednesdays . I love Ottawa and am settling in. Happy Holidays
